Resource Lists

There’s a vibrant wealth of feminist movement groups doing transformational work in every setting, country and across issue areas, and we encourage philanthropists to lean into the possibilities of supporting this work.

In addition to the essential practices discussed in Lighting the Way, we were asked by Bridgespan and philanthropists to provide some direction for those new to this space.

To support philanthropists on this journey and promote the flow of resources to feminist organizations and movements, we offer two resources:

We partnered with feminist funders and philanthropic practitioners to develop an illustrative list of organizations representing local, regional, national or global re-granting organizations, constituency-led and participatory funds. This list is intended to be open and dynamic, as new organizations will emerge in response to community needs.

We also offer a list of 400 leading organizations working at the intersection of gender, racial, youth, and economic justice with a special emphasis on adolescent girls’ rights and ending violence against girls and women. This list draws on the work of two initiatives focused on girls' and women's rights at NoVo Foundation from 2008 - 2020 and is not being updated.

We recognize that listing organizations is an imperfect solution. Lists are influenced by the strengths and limitations of contributors, will exclude feminist organizations who face security consequences if they are spotlighted, and will by definition fall short of including all feminist movements in all of their dynamism. In addition, we should make clear that it is also possible to resource feminist movements outside of re-granting structures. The lists are intended to be learning resources and should not be considered investment advice.

The criteria that was used to compile the illustrative list of women’s funds & feminist funders is included below. The organizations:

  1. Focus on power and rights

  2. Use an intersectional analysis

  3. Move funding to Black, Indigenous, communities of color and other communities resisting multiple oppressions and discrimination

  4. Are re-granting organizations, constituency-led and/or participatory funds

  5. Work on multiple time horizons

  6. Collaborate with other movement organizations in the course of their work

If you fit this criteria and would like to be included in the illustrative list of women’s funds & feminist funders, please fill the form below. We make edits to this list on a quarterly basis.

We would like to thank the feminist grantmakers that contributed their knowledge of organizations focused on adolescent girls’ rights and ending violence against girls and women for their unwavering support of feminist movements: Ramatu Bangura, Melissa Centeno, Puja Dhawan, Hannah Giorgis, Caitlin Ho, Maheen Kaleem, Jody Myrum, Oanh-Nhi Nguyen, Kyndall Osibodu & Jesenia Santana.
